On Our Way to the Pants-Optional Ren Fair, Are We?

Fashion Fail - WhereSubmitted by: LisaKitty via Submission Page

Rumer Willis inherited her killer body from her mother and her strong jaw line from her father. And, judging by this picture, her fashion sense from the curtains in a set background of Moonlighting.

This isn’t so bad, I really really like that corset, where can I get one?! Other than that the skirt could’ve been dealt with better.

    • GothicMonkey says:

Stole the words from my mouth. This would be a beautiful dress if the skirt was more tasteful.

  2. Demzon says:

More like modified late-victorian. At that point bustles were, for the most part, not around any more. What we think of as the modern high heeled shoe, similar to what she is wearing, didn’t come about until the late Renaissance and so is not generally seen in properly done ren-fairs as they are mostly based around 1400-1500; ending just as this shoe style was being introduced in Paris, and not quite popular yet. More correctly it would be a neo-Victorian, or goth, or steampunk party; just add some cool whatnots that do nothing but look like they do something.
As for where to get a corset like that I would hazard that it was custom made by someone. You can get boning in most larger fabric stores and very likely a pattern if you need one as well. I would think that this site would list me as “poorly dressed” as well. I am generally to be found in a mid-Victorian style shirt, long coat, and a top hat with a flower and feather confection that I made on one side, some bat wings that I cast out of silver in front, and a whatnot that does nothing but looks like in may on the other side that I made as well; I am a silversmith and jeweler.
All a matter of taste; except in quite a few cases that have been on here, so carry on. ~.^

Looking again that seems to be a non boned style so nix the boning if you like that type. Be sure to double your eyelets for the lacing though so it doesn’t pinch and bunch up if you do that.

  3. Jami says:

So my question is – is she trying to do some version of steampunk or is she a Victorian era Xena: Warrior Princess?

  4. Toadhole says:

I have no problem with the dress (I watched Lady Gaga at the Grammy’s, seen plenty of peevage) BUT the hair, OMG the HAIR, what the hell is that style?

    • GothicMonkey says:

Yes, she DEFINITELY needs to rethink the hair.

    • rose says:

its more than likely a wig, i would need to confirm with her. as mentioned below she is a cosplayer and likely trying to be true to the character she is portraying.

  5. teft says:

Nice back drop. “Mattel”, “Toys R Us” and “Children Affected By AIDS Foundation”. Nice outfit to wear to such a venue.

  6. Jessica S. Lopez says:

Actually, I like that. If it weren’t for the hair…

  7. Headtail says:

How could Demi and Ashton let her out of the house like that?

  8. Procrastinateher says:

Hey, if I had that body I’d go pantless in public too.

However, it does do a good job at taking the focus away from her chin, and the hair that has been somewhat neglected – celebrities are meant to have immaculate hair at all events, right?

Then again… that event seems to say “this involves children, we have to set a good example and wear the appropriate amount of clothes”.

  9. violetxrain says:

Too revealing, but I like it other than that.

  10. Crystallia says:

I wouldn’t have a problem dressing one of my characters up this way… but I’d probably never wear it in public. Too revealing.

  11. punkydoll says:

Considering that this was her Halloween Costume..I think she’s okay.

  12. Tamcatt says:

The outfit is fine except for she is at a childrens function! not a costume party! idiot.

  13. Kitty says:

The worst thing about this picture is that she is standing in front of Toys R Us and Matel signs…. the outfit would be fine for a convention or something but not for this event…

  14. boon says:

    i´d <3 to do her^^

  15. Kediset says:

that outfit doesn’t look too bad.. but for me to wear it it needs to be complete (full skirt) <.<

  16. sasha says:

I like her outfit in a circus performer kind of costune way. She wears it well. Her hair and make up need some serious work however. As well as her posture.

  17. Props to anyone who gets that joke. says:

I LOVE that corset with tail thing! I do, I really do. It’s just that I don’t wanna see her undies. Put some jeans or a skirt on her, and I’d adore this :D

  18. crystal says:

cute corset but is this a bit to sexy fo toys r us? No right?

  19. Lai-Lai says:

    Hellooooo nurse!

  20. Leeums says:

OH MAN I love that the step and repeat is all about child-related corporations/charities.

  21. rose says:

i’m a little peeved seeing this actually, and wondering who submitted it. this is one of my best friends, imagine my shock finding her picture here. she is a cosplayer and i’m fairly certain the photo was taken at an anime convention.

  22. Lucas says:

    Sexy legs ; )

  23. Aisayuri Tsukine says:

I really like this dress. Honestly. I even like the stockings (fishnets = win) and the shoes but she needs a skirt! Just something real cute and simple like maybe a black satin mini? With tiny ruffles on the hem? Oh god yes.

  24. OddWheelz says:

This is a beautiful dress. I agree fishnets always work, but this is a period piece. Maybe black hose and a sheer front panel, curved up split to a mid-thigh (for graceful flow when walking) with a ruffle matching the bodice running all along the edge. The hair could be wilder, long, dark and wavy. The shoes could be ankle boots, not too high a heel/platform. Russet lipstick to match the bodice.

  25. weats says:

this is how howard wolowitz’s hair would look like if he decided to try the mulleted look.

  26. Sage39 says:

That’s a healthy pair of legs right there! Need to get rid of the victorian retro mullet thing on her head, though.

  27. Realdragon says:

The hair could use some improvment, without question — otherwise, I have NO complaints!
