Fashion Fail - Ive Never Felt More Patriotic

Submitted by: dunno source via Submission Page

Happy Memorial Day to all the Poorly Dressed readers in the U.S. and beyond! While I’m honoring our nation’s brave military men and women by getting drunk at a barbecue, please enjoy this piece of patriotic performance art. Or whatever it is.

  2. merri says:

ls that a real dog, or just some toy undergoing cruel & unusual punishment?

    • j. says:

It looks stuffed… I’m guessing either the guy is just posed with a stationary dog, or said dog is really one of those toys with a rigid leash and wheels on the bottom.

      • Alletron says:

The dog is fake. This guy hangs out on Royal St. in New Orleans… I saw him a couple months ago.. yay NOLA!

  3. Krista says:

Is the dog smoking a cigar?!?!

  4. shevell says:

    Looks like flavor flav.

This is a living statue in nola.

  8. chreeha says:

I know this guy. He mugs like this in the French Quarter. He stands perfectly still. He calls himself ‘Uncle Louie’.

  9. CIS says:

Is that dog smaller than a football?
    Where’s his man card….

  10. McCaraly says:

Hey! I know that guy! He’s a street performer in the French Quarter in New Orleans! He stands like that for hours on end and people snap photos with him. I pass by him frequently on my way to and from work and always marvel at how still he can stand so still even when people are doing inappropriate things for the pictures they are taking with him. He’s a good sport!!

  11. nolagirl says:

Louis! He makes serious cash from tourists!

  12. Lonnie says:

No, not poorly dressed…just a normal guy in the French Quarter. He’s a street performer and his whole gig is that he puts himself in silly positions and charges tourists a dollar or two for photos. He actually makes good money doing that. Everytime I happen to pass him in the quarter, he always has a container full of cash.

  13. DZ says:

Another Robert Crumb creation come to life.

  14. coffeegod says:

Ah, New Orleans. Good times, good times.

  15. rick9 says:

  17. LynzCatastrophe says:

Happy Memorial Day to my friends south of the boarder!! (yes i am Canadian, what of it?)

  18. ChiaMia says:

This guy is in New Orleans. I was there with a bunch of teens for relief work last year. He’s very friendly and happily interacted with my group. He has a stuffed dog on a rigid leash, and yes it is smoking a cigar. He’s one of many “living statues” there. Most of them are in silver clothes and face/body paint. He’s the only one with this kind of costume. It’s his “signature” outfit. And, he can hold that pose for hours.

  19. Jimbo Jonez says:

I know this guy… He hangs out on Bourbon St. in New Orleans. He stands like that for hours (wanker).

  20. merryanna says:

just so everyone knows, this guys been performing in the french quarter for as long as I can remember. the dog is not real, as the entire tableaux remains motionless to the viewer, but come back an hour later and he will have moved a half step or so forward.

  21. Nikky says:

That guy works on Bourbon St in New Orleans, LA. We see him everyday, he usually has a stuffed dog but sometimes poses with a little plastic alligator! He is one of our “Human Statues” who poses for pics with tourists for tips.

  22. MC says:

That’s on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The guy is a street performer and does the “statue” thing. The dog is (obviously) not real.

  23. Demidan says:

New Orleans for the Win? NO, just a crazy guy on Royal st. nothing new there, most likely a street performer.

  24. louisianagurl says:

This was taken in New Orleans. He’s a big attraction to the drunks on Bourbon.

  25. Calliope says:

He looks like the Shakedown Street guy.

  26. Ava says:

How does… how does he walk? Just look at his feet position, isn’t that strange?

  27. Goblin says:

    Wow, People.
He is a ‘Living Statue’ from New Orleans. Probably one of the best one I’d seen while there. Let’s see you all stand like that for 30 minutes straight.

The outfit is part of the act, Obviously.

  28. Jingles says:

I remember this guy from New Orleans… He was oddly dressed, but absolutely hilarious, and a good performer (if standing impeccably still in the middle of the street is your idea of performing)!

  29. bob says:

street performer on bourbon street. stands there like that for 10-15 mins at a time

  30. DC says:

This guy is a “human statue” in New Orleans! He can stand like that for a long time. Yes, it’s a stuffed dog smoking a cigar but that’s part of the act.

  31. K3nny says:

Yea he is in New Orleans in the Quater all the time

  32. pix says:

It looks like his abnormally long legs are broken.

  33. dom says:

    Haters gonna hate!

  34. Hellen says:

I actually thought it was a stuffed platypus with a little patriotic top hat . . . Now I want a platypus with a little top hat and monocle =(

  35. Christina says:

This guy is a street performer in New Orleans. I have a picture of him from 9 years ago wearing a similar outfit except with a football instead of a toy dog.

  36. Hokusbloke says:

LOL, I took a picture of this guy when I was in New Orleans last januari.

  37. NOLADUDE says:

Just another day in New Orleans.

  38. Jon says:

this guy stands like this for hours non-stop…. pose WIN… seen him on myself on a few trips down Bourbon St.

  39. John says:

Had the pleasure of seeing him in NOLA this spring, and got a couple pictures.

Admittidly, taking a picture of a guy standing perfectly still doesn’t really capture his performance. And filming it is kind of pointless too. You really have to see it in person to appreciate it, but I will say he’s very cool to watch.

  40. Smitty says:

I’m going to call this a WIN. It’s a win for America and a win for his tiny cigar smoking dog!

  41. ChiaMia says:

Anyone can do this pose. He taught the group of teens I was with how to do it. It looks like his legs are ridiculously long and broken because of the angle the picture was taken.

  42. csm says:

    Snuffy from sesame street.

God damn that guy has long legs.

  43. Swilson says:

This is in the French Quarter of New Orleans. This guy stands here for hours like this year round, fuckin nuts!

  44. JanD says:

Nice to see that R. Crumb’s Mr. Natural is alive, well and nattily dressed!

  45. Thomcat says:

I’ve met this guy IRL – he’s *very* entertaining. For a few extra bucks he’ll give your teen daughter “standing still and being silent” lessons….worth every penny!! ;-)

  46. Georgia says:

I definitely saw this guy and took a picture of him when I was in NO for Jazz Fest! awesomeee

  47. chumpkles says:

Royal Street New Orleans. He stands still with the toy dog & people take their picture with him. He’s got a tip bucket and is quite well known.

This gut works in New Orleans. He stands like that all day and people give him money to take a picture with him. He has been in New Orleans for a long time.

  50. hamza says:

man this guy got serious swagger

  51. Jill says:

I like how everyone here had to explain what this dude does over and over and over again.

  52. Geisha_Girl says:

It’s because no one cares what anyone else has to say, it’s all about you.

  53. JP says:

I swear I saw this guy in the Blondie – Rapture video!

  54. Keziah says:

    I’ve seen this guy!
He is always in New Orleans down Bourbon street, makes a crap load of tips :)

  55. Michelle says:

I’ve seen this guy run down people who take pictures of him and then leave without paying. Gotta love NOLA!

  56. Joe says:

    Fashion Fail?? Definitely NOT

let me reiterate once again (which examples)
because actually it IS all about YOU/ME

He is a fine example of Robert Crumb’s ‘Keep on Truckin’ Man
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keep_on_Truckin%27_%28comics%29

His pose also invokes memories of the famous
Monty Python’s Ministry of Silly Walks

Final Verdict: Vintage Cartoon Fashion at it’s finest!

Let me repeat once again: VINTAGE CARTOON FASHION

  57. boeweizer says:

    FLAVA FLAV!!!!

  58. mike says:

Whoa cool. I saw that same guy while vacationing in New Orleans. I even have a short video.

  59. Gareth says:

    “Haters gonna hate”

  60. Matt says:

Why does this make me think of Kool Keith?

  61. Tara says:

Haha omg I saw this guy when we vacationed down in New Orleans he can stay frozen like that for like 20 minutes!

  62. John says:

wow I took a picture with this guy in New Orleans about two weeks ago

  63. skye says:

hey hey hey! gotta love the Big Easy. send money to the Gulf Aid. we NEED this place. really, nothing like New Orleans. and the dog smoking, petty compared to what goes on at night. lol. i always wondered how the living statues stayed so still for so long. i watched one once and had to go pee 3 times during my stare down. i’ve decided they use depends.

  64. Darrel says:

Great performer on the streets of New Orleans.

  65. Patrick says:

he looks like the statue of libertys pimp

  66. Pete says:

Looks like a typical day on Bourbon Street….

  67. Jake says:

When my family was in new orleans my sister posed next to him but they were both pointing towards the sky as if there were something there.

  68. Jane says:

Yup, that’s New Orleans. Your argument is invalid.

  69. molly says:

yup this looks like the french quarter, as a matter of fact, i think i know this guy

  70. Droidy says:

What do you expect? It’s New Orleans. I’ve seen crazier things in N.O. I’m not so much concerned as to what he’s wearing as the way he’s walking. Looks like he is going to break something.

  71. Joseph says:

This guy is actually a performance artist. I live in New Orleans and see this guy around the French Quarter a lot. He is standing motionless, and the dog is fake. People come by, take a picture where it looks like he is walking, then leave a tip in the bucket that is probably just off-camera.

Not really a fail if his whole point is to look outlandish, imho- especially considering that he makes some money doing it, and is very gracious when tipped.

  72. Jill says:

Hey. Fail. That’s a street performer in New Orleans. He’s dressed that way on purpose.

  73. Dannylion says:

I LOVE THIS MAN!! I saw him in New Orleans last year while I was on a mission trip with my church! One of our chaperones got her picture taken with him! It was perfect! xDD

I just saw this guy in New Orleans…Bourbon Street of course! He makes LOTS of money

  78. Iheartglitter says:

This guys really good. He’s a street performer in The french quarter in new orleans. He poses perfectly still for minutes with his toy dog. Sometimes he has random people pose with him.

  79. wollombi says:

Does anyone else keep hearing James Brown’s “Living in America”?

  80. Lizz says:

I took a picture of this guy with my sister in New Orleans! You see him everywhere there! I think he has multiple versions of this outfit.

  81. Sunshine says:

I absolutely LOVE this guy! He is the best in the Quarter! He is also very kind; on more than one occasion I have seen him give homeless people money! GREAT GUY!

  82. Jake says:

thats Uncle Louie! He lives in New Orleans and poses with that dog like a human statue for tips. I lived in the French Quarter for 3 years, and would talk to him often. He’s actually a pretty neat guy!
