Every year, the folks who manufacture Duct Tape sponsor a contest, encouraging young couples to make their high school prom outfits from the tape. If you look closely at her skirt, you can see the horizontal lines where the tape overlaps. I think it’s pretty clever, and the fellow is a darned good sport.
But red, white and blue? With hearts?
It got ‘em on the internet, didn’t it? lol
Duct Tape was my first thought as well…
Isn’t it a scholarship contest?
This apparently wasn’t the only red white and blue entry this year (and one made the top 10) – the official duck-tape prom contest is at:

Wow. Some of those look like real dresses. I mean look like they’re made of fabric, not duct tape!
i thought it was wrapping paper, but either could be possible
I don’t think it’s tape, I think those are just folds in the polyvinyl. 20 metres of wet look PVC can’t be all wrong… can it?
Well, actually, if you look at the stripes on the bottom of the male’s suit jacket, it’s clearly made of duct tape.
Someone call James Brown! “Living in Americaaaaaa”
At least they BOTH went down that road.
Lovely Duct Tape Prom outfits! go to the Duct Tape websites you’ll see some amazingly creative stuff!
It’s so cliché it’s kind of adorable.
I’m with you–adorable! Sweet and patriotic, too. My hat is off to anyone who takes the time and energy to be creative.
It’s more than just a kitschy thing to do, there are scholarships for the winners
“First place winners receive a $3,000 scholarship each. Second place will each receive $2,000, third place earns $1,000 each and runners up will receive $500. “
I have no idea what it’s made of, but I imagine it’s something that makes a crackling sound when you walk.
The “Stuck at Prom” Duck Tape competition gives away large college scholarships every year. It’s a really awesome way to get kids to publicly dedicate themselves to their own educations. This couple is not poorly dressed; they’re rockin’ an eye-catching look trying to get money for college.
I admire it.
I’m pretty impressed! Imagine the hours it took to put this together. I wonder how many attempts until this masterpiece?
Is that… duct tape?
I like how he has Obama written on his right breast pocket.
Like Obama is going to champion idiocy just because he’s black too.
do I smell jealousy of their darkness? *sniff sniff* Yep.
No, I could care less that the couple are black. It’s their sheer magnitude of stupidity that bothers me.
and also, he has Obama’s name on his breast pocket because he is the PRESIDENT.
Since he is the PRESIDENT (not mine), why an image of the capitol building and not the white house? Maybe the suit was made back in the good ol’ days when the community organizer was but a US senator.
Classy!
I liked it
What about this is “idiocy”? It’s creative; it’s patriotic; and it took a lot of careful work to make it happen. If that’s “idiocy”, then give me more!
You can have all the idiocy you want then, idiot.
But it is also disgustingly tacky.
But the whole point is that it’s tacky and cute! It’s a kitschy competition.
lol this is awesome. Wow. lmao
If they win then they get a ton of cash so I’m not so sure that this is a fail if they do win…. People will hand out scholarships to anyone nowadays though.
That’s hot!
PussDaddy
DUCT TAPE is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
for the people who is saying this is tacky… the duct tape challenge has a theme… and is extremely hard. I’d like to see you make your prom gear out of duct tape
This would be pretty awesome, but it says “Obama” on it so it sucks.
I approve of this message.
Also, lost the game.
FYI.
My sister won a local duct tape clothing contest. No colored tape allowed, and at least one article of clothing had to be made entirely of duct tape. She made a long skirt (back when they were fashionable). She couldn’t sit down in it, and forget trying to go to the bathroom. She won $100 and a gift certificate to the clothing store sponsoring the contest.
Is that Wayne Brady?
Am I the only one who wonders about the background?
yay!!! duck tape
Betsy Ross is rolling over in her grave….
god bless america!
