I Must Have Eaten the Bad Pills

fashion fails - New Rave Bun Buns

Submitted by: dunno source via Submission Page

What is going on here? There can’t be daytime raves. Ecstasy isn’t strong enough to make that tolerable.

Is this some sort of rave summit held at an airport-adjacent convention hall?! Has the government been spying on my nightmares? I’m going back to bed. Wake me up when you can definitively say that rave-industry trade shows do not exist.

  1. Chaos Child says:

*starts laughing* I think I actually know where this is. That is Connecticon, it an anime/scifi convention held in the meeting plaza attached to the Hilton hotel in Hartford CT. I went last year and there were people dressed even stranger than those two.

    • fraoch says:

If that was at Connecticon, then WTF anime are THEY from?!

      • Claw says:

Cons tend to draw out the subculturalists. Cybergoths, ravers, regular goths, j-rockers, steampunks and, of course, lolitas aren’t that uncommon.

    • RavensFire says:

Nope. This is Animazment in NC (2010). (I know, cause I’m in the background, first floor.) This was the second day, and the line down there is for Hidaka Noriko who is best known for her roles as Akane (Ranma 1/2) Satsuki (My neighbor Totoro) Near (Death Note) and Kikyou (Inuyasha) I got her and every one else to sign their lives away in my Death note^_^

    • kitkat says:

I took that picture at Animazement in Raleigh NC. They had been dancing not long before the picture. It is a female and a male in the raver costumes.

    • Lai-Lai says:

      Looks like Sakuracon to me.

    • Lolward says:

yep, that’s what I thought first, too.
It MUST be a convention. I mean, there’s a “sayajin” on the left upper corner of the pic xD

  2. confuzdpanda says:

it’s from the annual Anime Expo held at the LA convention Center in California. These people, though annoying, are “cosplaying” (costume play: dressing up as characters from Japanese cartoons/comics/culture related fashion)

    • Nezumi says:

Then who are they cosplaying as? I don’t remember seeing or hearing of characters that remotely look like… that.

      • SpaceFairie says:

Sometimes, when people cosplay, they just dress up in whatever gear they’d like to be able to wear everyday.

Occasionally these people will claim they are an extra in such and such scene of whatever anime or manga their getup loosely resembles most. And that you can spot them clearly but they only get called on it half the time.

        • Satan_mamma says:

You dont really *have* to be an actual character tho. You can just play as a theme. 90% though the awesome costumes are so because they are based off a character and done well.

      • Suna says:

Probably just eager for the con rave :D

    • Cyberwolfman says:

I remember seeing those two. It was Anime Expo 2007, the last time it was held at the Long Beach Convention Center. One of the few things I wish I could unsee from that year.

Also something I wish I could unsee from that year, this 6’4″ 300lb. guy cosplaying as Sailor Neptune…..

Ever had that feeling of wanting to laugh and throw up at the same time?

      • Talented Kitten says:

thats not quite as bad as the 5’8″ 300+ pound “Manry” (male winry from FMA) that was at kamoricon one year. he came complete w/ undone coveralls, hair bandana and strapless black bra to cover his shame…sorta.

    • PrayForMojo says:

There was also a epic-level rave the week before, called Electric Daisy. A crapload of their weirdos was wandering around my hotel (the Westin) when I checked in. Then the Anime Expo started, and those weirdos were everywhere when I checked out.

It made for a pleasant sense of symmetry.

    • Endlessly says:

Yeah, I was going to guess Anime Expo. The carpet looked oddly familiar…

    • Wat says:

Actually, it’s animazement, like said before. I was there, I know them.

      • Raleigh says:

So it’s Raleigh, NC at the new convention center (Animazement 2010) The funky carpet was someone’s clever way of symbolizing the technology and connectivity of the Research Triangle Park. Yeah… no way it’s anywhere else.

  3. arf says:

Looks like the Hartford Convention Center.

    Connecticon, maybe?

  4. Robin Gurl says:

Not too sure I’d wear the hair piece or the fur leggings but I’d take the skirt and shirt any day! :D I love that kind of rainbow pattern.

And yes, I was wondering if it was an anime convention as well! :D I want to go to one so badly!

  5. LittleBasementKitten says:

I nominate the person in the upper left as a Person in the Lower Right, although the names contradict each other.

  6. TabooSushi says:

I want to say that this is either the L.A Convention Center in California during Anime Expo, or at the San Diego Covention Center during the San Diego Comic Con. These people aren’t cosplaying as anything in particular, but there are always people who dress in culture-related fashion as well as anime/manga fashion.

  7. KennyCelican says:

It’s definitely an Anime convention. Nigh impossible to tell which one, though, unless you can positively identify that awful carpet. The glass and overlook are both very, very common now in big new convention centers.

My first guess was Otakon in Baltimore.

  8. Lizzeborded says:

Looks more like Megacon in Orlando to me.

  9. Sanna says:

from what I can see of Naruto in the background and the people down on the lower story, it’s definitely an anime con. My initial money was on it being Otakon, because I vaguely recall a ledge/railing like that, but that was a good 5 years ago, so I’m probably wrong there. But it’s reasonably common (or at least not terribly /un/common) at anime cons for people planning on going to the rave later that evening to just walk around all day in their rave getup. So no, they’re probably not actually trying to be specific characters, or even ‘background extras’ from some specific series. They’re just dressing up because they’re at a con, and when in Rome, things stay in Vegas. Or something like that.

  10. abadidea says:

Could also be Anime Mid-Atlantic in Virginia. Convention halls all kind of look alike. But there are DEFINITELY raver-to-the-point-of-parody kids at conventions here on the east coast.

  11. Scout says:

San Diego Convention Center, it is Comic Con

  12. Yosh says:

I’ve always found that the best part of anime con photos is spotting people in the background.

Say, isn’t that Piccolo from DBZ on the ground floor there?

  13. Tenten says:

That’s definitely Nekocon or Anime Mid-Atlantic…I know this because I know that dude! <3 him!

  14. jaycee says:

It’s Anime Expo in Los Angeles. I went last year and there’s TONS more fugly people that think they look cute :(

  15. Tenten says:

Oh and by the way…for you idiots who don’t know, at most conventions they have dances…which are basically raves. So ravers, who a lot of time are also otaku, will go to cons dressed in rave gear the whole day, gearing up towards the dances. Kthxbai. :D

  16. NaotoRuder says:

Ummm…This is from Animazement in North Carolina.
I actually know them and dress similar to this at conventions.

These conventions hold night time dance/raves on Friday and Saturday nights during the convention, and people dress this way.

They wear it during the day because they put a lot of hard work into making the outfits and don’t want them to go to waste.

Not to mention people who actually understand that it is a fashion style like to see people wearing it. Granted, they aren’t in their BEST outfits, they still are far from poorly dressed. Cyber outfits like these can cost hundreds of dollars. I know the one I got from a designer called Takuya Angel was $750 and surely not a “bad” fashion choice.

I have seen some MODELS for that designer on here as well, and I don’t see what is so “bad” about their clothes other than them not being the plain, boring fashion we usually see. “Oh no! Someone thought outside the box! Time to make fun of them!!” =_=”

So, take time to understand fashion before posting legitimate outfits on here claiming them to be fashion mishaps.

    • mypsychoticself says:

So I’m not going crazy! I was running one of the video rooms from 10am to 4pm on saturday, and saw these two (and a few others) dancing for a few hours. I’m almost positive that this picture is from Animazement, because I remember thinking that the carpet was crazy ugly ;)

    • peony says:

Just because an outfit costs a lot of money does NOT mean that it is automatically a good choice for that person. I think I understand the concept of “cosplay” – once called “letting your freak flag fly or freakin’ the straights’ minds”- and I do understand that said costumes may cost a lot of money. HOWEVER – these costumes do not enhance these young persons’ looks even one teeny bit!!

    • Kate Koala says:

I KNEW it was Animazement. That, or all hotels just look like the Raleigh Convention Center…

  17. Banditt says:

abadidea got it. it was Anime Mid-Atlantic. And i know both of them in this photo. >.> Anime cons tend to have “raves” (not like the actuals), so people like to show off the hard work they put into their outfits.

    rave gear is serious bizzness.

    • shauni55 says:

Ahhhh I thought they looked familiar, they were also at nekocon in Hampton. They stayed in the same hotel as me. One night I stepped out to smoke and this crack head came walking out to his car and they walked by and into another car. The crack head started yelling “dam tem girls were finneeee”, I didn’t have the heart to tell him one was a guy

  18. momo says:

its at anime matsuri :P i took a pic of her as well

  19. Fault says:

I’ve dressed like a hypercolour rainbow explosion at a convention before. I did a meme-dance skit in the cosplay comp and people loved it. However, I do live in a cosplay loving city.

  20. ivy says:

omg i was there lol thats animzment it was awweeeeesoommeeee

  21. AlinaKei says:

This is definitely at Animazement in Raleigh, NC. I was there and me and my friends watched them dance around for awhile; they were actually pretty cool….

  22. nicomi says:

Its definatly at Animazement I have pictures of them on my camera
And I think they’re cute and they were super sweet when i asked them to pose =D

  23. IDream says:

This is from Animazement in North Carolina, guys.
Same carpet, windows, everything. Look up vidoes on Youtube if you don’t believe me. xD

Down below is the line probably for those waiting for NOIZ autographs.

As for the outfits, that’s really not that bad. o.O There’s alot worse there (as well as ALOT of good costumes this year, good job AZ goers!).

  24. hee hee says:

Just say NO, Rainbow Brite! Just. Say. NO! (btw… there is SOMEthing wrong with Twink!!)

  25. blue says:

Are we really so desperate for submissions that we’re mocking the style choices of anime con-goers? That’s like stealing candy from a child who is perfectly willing to share his candy with you. These people INTEND to wear crazy outfits that they’d never normally wear in public.

    • Bish says:

Agreed! Else my entire cosplay collection should be on this site.

COSPLAY DOESN’T COUNT FOR POORLY DRESSED. Even in Wal-mart!! (There is a peopleofwalmart.com with a cosplayer).

It would be like someone in a Broadway musical being on here.. yes they are wearing strange outfits.. its part of what they do!

And yes this is Animazement…I’ve been every year since 2001… I know that con :-D

  26. Haruhi says:

This is from Animazement. Not only can you tell from the background, their passes are from Animazement 13 this year.

  27. fail_of_doom says:

    ZOMG!

  28. Jessica says:

This is definitely an anime convention. I see a Naruto in the background. I’m not sure where it is though..

  29. Amaszing says:

    They are too cute

  30. gryphoemia says:

ravers are retarded, and that’s all there is to it. if they’d stick to the harder music, and leave the ridiculous costumes and posturing out ov it, they’d be bearable.

    • Anna Rexia says:

Chances are, they probably think your choice of music and style are retarded as well. It’s all about perspective.

  31. VBabi says:

Yeah, this is from Animazement 13 in NC. Me and my friends took this exact picture. I’m not sure why it’s on here. I thought the outfits were awesome. I would never wear it tho.

  32. AmayaTsuki says:

    Animazement 2010. Raleigh, NC.

    I was there :p

  33. Demarion says:

Psh. That’s not poorly dressed. That’s clearly some sort of anime convention. Sheesh. Besides, rave kids are awesome. I say that because I am one. :D

  34. Sam says:

This is MOST DEFINITELY Animezment 13 (2010) I should know because I was at the convention, and I actually have a picture of myself posing with the two of them. :)
I’m glad to see so many people in the comments know it from an anime con and are accepting, but there are also so many rude comments, I don’t judge what you do in your free time, don’t judge us!
I promise though, it’s from AZ 13, not another con lol

  35. RollingThunder says:

I WENT TO CTCON! hahaha those are fail rave outfits.

  36. Fluffylace says:

Totally Anime Expo 2010 in Los Angeles!

  37. CandyFan says:

    1) That is at a convention for sure
    2) They are not doing Cos-play, those are candy kids
    3) They actually dress like that in every day life, especially the boy in the picture (who i happen to know in real life)

  38. meowcat2 says:

    candy ravers!!!!:) :) :):)

  39. Abbie says:

AHHH! That was the Animazement! I was there AND I got pictures of the same people!

  40. Anna Rexia says:

Maybe it’s because I’ve seen so many pictures of people dressed like this, because the only thing I see wrong with this picture is the expression on the guy’s face. He’s trying too hard. The girl looks like she’s having fun, so more power to her.

  41. I’m a cyber goth and I find this pretty common. As you can see, in the back…you can notice a Sangoku watching down….TI’s clear, that their at an anime convention

  42. Animazing says:

It’s obviously an anime convention. And, while this attire may not be appropriate for daily wear, it is perfectly fine for a con. In fact, they have rather nice cosplays.

  43. Tai says:

and for those that care that was nekocon last year in hampton virginia. I know i was there

    • VBabi says:

Actually this is from Animazement 13 (2010) in Raleigh, NC. I should know, I originally took this picture. It seems like they go to many cons from different states. They’re awesome

  44. Lauren says:

This was taken at Animazement? How did I miss these guys?! Well, It’s not that strange for an anime convention- My friend saw a guy cosplaying as Jesus at Animazement 2009…

  45. dbo says:

I’m definitely nit picking, but if I went balls out too wear something like that, I would not wear my worn out normal sneakers. it’s the smallest thing in the picture but it’s driving me nutty.

  46. Mars says:

LOL. This was at the Connecticon (an anime convention) at the Hartford Convention Center. I’ll never forget that floor looking over the first floor. WHAT WILD RAVERS. This is perfectly normal at anime conventions. :d

  47. Mars says:

Owait, fail. It is not the Hartford Convention Center. :/ Mah bad. It looks like it from an angle. *shrugs*

  48. Haruhi says:

Look at the pass hanging around the guys neck. Like others and myself have already stated, it’s from Animazement 13; not any other con. Does no one read comments?

  49. ketsuhime says:

There is always a few people wearing outfits like that at EVERY anime con.

  50. Someguy says:

Looks like they are trying to do a VERY poor attempt at Yamamba and Sentagai styles, but again REALLY POOR attempt. Good god, put Japanese subcultures back in their context where they belong XD

  51. Hillary says:

Haha oh god Animazement….how you bring the crazy people out.

  52. Foxii says:

That must be an anime convention, I see Piccolo down there.

  53. ashley says:

i went to my first con last sat. there where a whole bunch of people dressed like this and such it was weird. i bed there not cosplaying there just there for the rave. some where even danceing in the lobby before the rave. :D

  54. kitkat says:

I took this picture at Animazement 2010 in Raleigh NC at the Convention Center.

  55. Terry says:

Actually, this is Animazement. The only anime convertion in North Carolina. (I saw these two there so i have proof :) ) And you can’t really put this picture here since it was an anime con and all, might as well put everone in the con in one photo, because pretty much everyone is dressed like that :/

  56. Yes. I know. But apparently no-one else read any of the comments before they posted their stupid guess.

  57. dryden says:

Convention pictures shouldn’t count on this site. These people are awesome at the conventions and I don’t think they deserve to get made fun of on the net because they dressed like several thousand people in a gathering specifically to dress up. I guess that is probably because I am a cosplayer, but that is just my opinion.

  58. Kayla says:

THAT WAS AT ANIMAZEMENT! NOT ANY OTHER CON!

  59. Furbag says:

I love how there’s at least 6-7 different people claiming that they saw this exact scene here at (insert random anime convention here).

This is somewhat tolerable. it’s Man-Misty and Man-Faye that scare the people who are not in the loop.

  60. CattZen says:

I saw them at AZ too! I don’t think stuff like this should count either. It’s an anime-con, not like they were out on the street on a normal Tuesday or anything.

  61. kandieman says:

I would agree that my pose was way horrible XD I had just woken up from napping while waiting in line for a band that was playing there (Noiz) and it was at ANIMAZEMENT RALIEGH NORTH CAROLINA. I just wanna know who was the gamer at the anime con that went to the bathroom and took a picture of the first thing he saw lol

  62. Deathrocker says:

    Silly cyber kids… thinking that that’s fashion…

  63. Beckaboo says:

    They are just cyber goths.

    • kandieman says:

neon cyber but it cyber goth is not much different anyways haha just darker
      this is neon cyberhttp
      ://www.bing.com/images/search?q=sisen#focal=fea26684322e16d9a2612b46e631c201&furl=http://www.glogster.com/media/2/3/9/41/3094110.jpg

  64. Kandiimess says:

That was at Animazement! he was awesome!! I loved him!. He was dressed as a Kandi Kid. Ma’dear. Goth is just a “Label” It really does not exist. Just a bunch of posers.

  65. Karmzilla says:

See that guy on the floor? Right there. Yeah, with the random crap on his head. Thats my best friend. Gotta problem with that? Didn’t think so. ~walks off like a bad-ass~.<~My newest fantasy?

  66. Hikage says:

It was at the Otakuthon at Montreal. I recognize their surroundings.

  67. mittenz says:

I would almost bet my months wages on the fact that her outfit is by Adjamiba Clubwear in the UK. I work for the lady that runs it and she sells a lot to American ravers. I’m pretty sure that’s a cropped cleavage top. Don’t knock raving til you’ve tried it people, a nice bunch of people on the whole. Who care’s who’s wearing what

  68. huh says:

they arent even ravers. They are just otaku posers who wish they could look like Dj SiSeN

  69. Ghosty says:

Dude, it’s CTCon. End of story. I’ve been to that convention center for numerous conventions, not just CTCon. The CT Science Center is right next door, and you can look down on the highway and the Convention Center. I live twenty minutes away, so I think I’d know. Or, perhaps, for those who think this is somewhere else, maybe it’s the same guy who designs all fo the convention centers, and they all look the same :o

  70. Vbabi says:

Come on people. It was already established that this is from Animazement 2010 in Raleigh, NC. You can read the earlier post and you would know. And if you so certain that it’s from some place else, look at the badge the guy is wearing around his neck. It’s clearly the same design for Animazement because it’s the official Animazement 2010 badge. If you don’t believe me just google image Animazement 2010 and you will see the exact badge on others people as well. And yes, the guy does goes to many different conventions and yes, anime conventions pretty much look the same.

  71. asdfas says:

    Hahahaha, connecticon.

  72. crave4rave says:

they r ravers harcore kandy kid and i love love love them! u guys keep doing that if u feel like a rainbow look like a rainbow!!! takes way more balls to go out looking how u feel than it does going out and blending in like people try so hard to do! stand out b one in a million!

  73. Ravegirl says:

OMFG. THAT WAS ANIMAZEMENT. I SAW HIM THERE. NO OTHER CON. JUST AZ. GET IT THROUGH YOUR DAMN HEAD. IF YOU THINK IT IS SOME OTHER CON PLEASE TELL ME SO I CAN KICK YOUR ASS.

  74. u r all r tard says:

u r all r tard cuz i remember these people they were at the san jose fanime convetion…. i kno they were cuz jesus dosed me with acid and then they started talking to me cuz they were trippen to

  75. Loki says:

Actually this is Animazement, in Raleigh, NC.

  76. Kori says:

That is DEFINITELY Animazement in North Carolina. I recognize everything about the background.

  77. Fang1r1101 says:

WOW almost a year and people still can’t get the con right. LOOK it was DAMN Animazement, in Raleigh, NC 2010 ok. I would know cause I’m the girl in the rainbow. Me and my buddy have never been on the west coast for an anime con.
Raver gear is just another form of the anime con side people who know this good job A+ and those who don’t YOU FAIL!!!!!
As for the rainbow some would say they mad cause they didn’t think of it first and I did. Sorry that is a one of a kind outfit
