While nationalist groups may have used the swastika, it certainly did not “stand for” it (e.g. was foremost on the average person’s mind) until the 1930s.

I think the picture/years are understanable even if you can’t understand german.
It’s about german gymnastik clubs, which were one of the main breeding cells of nationalism and racism, they used the swastika way before hitlers party did. Anyone educated anough will recognise these clubs as standing for those “nazi values”. They were in fact rather political groups these times, sport was just a cover for them.
Personally I don’t think wikipedia is a good resource for such delicate topics.
Personally, I found the epithet MOST convincing. I am now convinced that you are right, good sir/madam. Where may I subscribe to your all-knowing newsletter?
It depends on where you’re from, or what faith you follow. Buddhists still use it as a symbol of good luck, or well wishes. It’s also a Chinese writing character. Western culture has demonized it because of Hitler, but he stole it to begin with.
Americans, too. There was an ep of JL, “The Savage Time”, and although it was all about Nazi butt-kicking, they couldn’t show the actual Nazi swastika because it was a *cartoon*.
Probably Finnish, possibly predating WWII.
The Swastika did once have other connotations than nazism, you know.
Not since the invention of photography you retard. It stood for nationalism and racism since mid-19th century at least.

The swastika was first used by the NSDAP in 1920. Before that the swastika was not the symbol for nazism, nationalism or racism.

See above.

The Buddhist symbol is the reverse of a swastika.
“Retard”, you keep using that word, but I don’t think it means what you think it means. In any case, gyorpb is right and you’re wrong.

You keep using that phrase but I don’t think it applies when you think it applies. In this particular case I am right and you are just a proof of failed research ability.
To clarify the above Photography has been around since the 1820s. As mentioned National Socialism didn’t exist until the 1920s.
‘Atanar’ Doh! I hate it when that happens!
Still does…to Buddhists, Hindus, Jainists, Native American Indians, etc., etc. It is only Europeans who fear it.
Americans, too. There was an ep of JL, “The Savage Time”, and although it was all about Nazi butt-kicking, they couldn’t show the actual Nazi swastika because it was a *cartoon*.
it was originally an asian symbol and was also used by the Hopi to represent the four directions…
Trying to find the origin of the swastika is like trying to find the origin of the triangle. It’s just a too simple geometrical figure.
A quick search reveals: The Edmonton (CA) Swastikas, 1916.
This predates the Third Reich by several years.
blablabla svatiska blabla old symbol of luck blabla used by many brands bla bla including Coca Cola bla bla.
That, and the Nazi swastika is tilted 45 degrees.
I was hoping someone would mention that
And again, we have to teach the young’uns that the swastika was around for centuries before Nazi Germany.
Yeah, in fact you might say it’s as old as the hills

Don’t worry, I was born in 92 and I know well more history than most people 10 years older than me.
This was actually a Canadian girl’s hockey team. The _______ Swastikas.
I suddenly have the villain for the Great Canadian Movie!
Good one Sir, exept you could use “Greatest Canadian Movie”.
WTF is a “reice?”
Using the Tin Eye app, I found identification for the photo. They’re apparently from Edmonton, Canada, 1916.
